TFCD in the Buen Retiro Park

Recently I made a TFCD session with the wonderful model Leticia Rd. The chosen place was The Buen Retiro Park, an iconic place of the Spanish capital. With gardens, lakes, fountains and beautiful buildings was a good place for a photographic session as this.

I chose the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical IF lens because is the most adequate for portraits and people shots in general. Its short depth of field produces beautiful unsharpened backgrounds.

The problem is the focus. Manual focus with a negligible depth of field is very difficult. A minimum mistake in the plane in focus and the model is out of focus. Notice that the depth of field is about the centimetre, sometimes less.

Depth of Field for a 85mm lens with aperture f/1.4 at 1m of distance in a Nikon D7000 (by Online Depth of Field Calculator). That is the minimum depth of field with the gear I used.

Depth of Field for a 85mm lens with aperture f/2.0 at 1m of distance in a Nikon D7000 (by Online Depth of Field Calculator). That is the settings of some of my shots in this session.

Leaving the technical details, I show you the rest of my selection of pictures of this session with the marvellous Leticia Rd.

Once again, the lighting is very poor. I didn't use external flash or reflectors (only the frontal integrated flash for a few shots).

Note for the future me:

Learn lighting. Buy flashes and reflectors. Bring somebody for the "dirty work" :p.

It has been my third TFCD session (the second with a different model) and the experience has been very positive. TFCD (from "Time for Compact Disc") is a perfect way to connect amateurs models with amateurs photographers for free for both. Both can practice their disciplines and make new contacts for the future in a funny way, in a relaxed environment that money could corrupt it.

Special thanks to Leticia Rd. She was splendid in this session.
