Archive of Spanish Historical Heritage

Recently, the Ministry of Culture of Spain has inaugurated the digital archive of Spanish Cultural Heritage Institut (IPCE), a website where you can consult a lot of historical pictures taken in the last century and before.

Picture of the disappeared church of Santa María la Grande, in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid - Spain). From Moreno's archive (about 1930).

The website (in Spanish) has a seeker with several fields (general, title, author, archive, subject, country, state, city, etc.). You can find there a lot of pictures taken in Spain in the first half of 20th century and before. The archive also includes pictures taken outside Spain (there are right now 43 pictures related with France and 72 files related with USA, for example).

Picture of Cervantes Square, taken by António Passaporte about 1930.

There are two principal contributions: Moreno's archive and Loty archive. The first one is made by Mariano Moreno García (1865-1925) and sons until 1954. The second one is the work of the Portuguese photographer António Passaporte between 1926 and 1936.

Personally, I'm principally interested in Architecture and urban landscapes of the city where I live (Alcalá de Henares). A look to the past, where you'll find what is new and what is eternal. In general, it's a very interesting archive to see.
